One Championship, Two Finalists, and a Summer of Growth Representing Villarreal CF

Just a few days ago, we shared the exciting news that six Villarreal Houston Academy players had earned the opportunity to travel to Spain and represent Villarreal CF in elite international tournaments.

Today, we are proud to celebrate not only their participation, but also their outstanding performances on one of the biggest stages in youth soccer.

Across three international tournaments in Spain, our players competed against top academies and talented players from around the world while proudly wearing the Villarreal CF badge. The results were remarkable: one championship, two finalist appearances, and countless memories and lessons that will help shape these players for years to come.

Alex Gonzales Leads 2010 Team to the Final

Representing Villarreal CF at the Gijón ESEI Cup in Asturias, Spain, Alex Gonzales joined the 2010 age group and played a key role throughout the tournament.

After several strong performances, the team advanced all the way to the championship match, ultimately finishing as tournament finalists.

Competing against elite international opposition and reaching the final is a tremendous accomplishment and another important milestone in Alex's development journey.

Jace Manila and Ezequiel Abuawad Reach the Final in Mallorca

In the 2014 age group, Jace Manila and Ezequiel Abuawad represented Villarreal CF at the prestigious Mallorca International Football Cup.

The team showcased excellent soccer throughout the competition and earned a place in the championship match. After a hard-fought tournament, they finished as finalists, falling 2-0 in the final.

While the result may not have gone their way, reaching the final against top international competition is a significant achievement and a testament to their dedication and quality as players.

Champions in Spain: Kalel Coronel, Jonathan Gonzales and Vicente Calix

The highlight of the week came from the 2012 age group competing at the Salou ESEI Cup.

Kalel Coronel, Jonathan Gonzales, and Vicente Calix helped Villarreal CF capture the tournament championship, finishing first and bringing home the title.

Winning an international tournament in Spain while representing Villarreal CF is an extraordinary accomplishment and a memory that will stay with these players forever.

Their success reflects the hard work they have put in throughout the year and their commitment to continuous improvement both on and off the field.

Congratulations to Kalel, Jonathan, and Vicente on becoming international tournament champions.

More Than a Tournament

While the trophies and medals are exciting, the true value of these experiences goes much deeper.

At Villarreal Houston Academy, our goal is not simply to win games. Our mission is to develop players and create opportunities that help them reach their full potential.

International events like these expose players to different styles of play, different tactical ideas, and different levels of competition. They challenge players to adapt, think faster, compete harder, and grow outside of their comfort zones.

Equally important, they provide cultural experiences that help young athletes develop independence, maturity, confidence, and a broader perspective of the global game.

These are experiences that cannot be replicated in a local league match.

The Villarreal Houston Difference

The success of our players in Spain is not the result of a single week. It is the result of a long-term development process built around quality coaching, a proven methodology, meaningful competition, and a direct connection to Villarreal CF.

As an official Villarreal CF partner academy, our players have access to opportunities that extend far beyond Houston. Through our international network, players can earn opportunities to train, compete, and be evaluated alongside top talent from around the world.

This is what being part of the Villarreal family is all about.

It is about creating pathways.

It is about challenging players to dream bigger.

It is about providing opportunities to compete on the highest stages while representing something larger than themselves.

Looking Ahead

We are incredibly proud of Alex Gonzales, Kalel Coronel, Jonathan Gonzales, Vicente Calix, Jace Manila, and Ezequiel Abuawad for the way they represented Villarreal CF, Villarreal Houston Academy, their families, and our community throughout this journey.

One championship.

Two finalist appearances.

Six players representing Houston in Spain.

The future continues to be bright for Villarreal Houston Academy.
