Villarreal Houston Academy Celebrates Incredible 2025/26 Season at Fall Creek Sports Complex

On Friday, May 15th, the Villarreal Houston Academy family gathered together at the Fall Creek Sports Complex for a memorable End of Season Celebration that brought together over 200 players, parents, coaches, and supporters from across the academy.
The evening was filled with smiles, laughter, food, raffles, prizes, and most importantly, an opportunity for families to celebrate another incredible year together as one club and one community.
The event was hosted by Villarreal Houston Academy President Cesar Coronel alongside special guests Coach Jorge Monferrer, representing Villarreal CF from Spain, and Fabian Montenegro Jr., Academy Director for Villarreal Cypress.
Throughout the evening, families enjoyed bonding time with players and coaches while reflecting on one of the most successful years in academy history.
A Year of Growth and International Opportunities
During the event, Villarreal Houston Academy leadership shared a recap of the club’s major accomplishments during the 2025/26 season.
Some of the highlights included:
51 Villarreal Houston players competing internationally in the Villarreal Academy Cup and Yellow Cup in Spain
Over 100 total travelers from Houston participating in the Spain experience
Three academy players competing at the prestigious Madrid Cup through the club’s partnership with D10 Argentina against some of the top U13 teams in the world
More than 20 players and family members traveling to Buenos Aires, Argentina to train and compete in league matches
Two players invited to Villarreal CF’s Player Development Program in Spain to study, train, and represent Villarreal CF
More than 20 players selected to represent Villarreal CF through the North America Select Program
Over 10 players invited to train with Mineros de Zacatecas Fuerzas Básicas in Mexico
Two players transitioning into professional environments, including one player joining Villarreal CF and another earning an opportunity with the Houston Dynamo Academy
Continued club growth and expansion into West Houston with a presence in Cypress and Tomball
Major progress toward higher-level competition pathways, including access to Texas 2 and GA platforms Thru club partnerships in the city of Houston.
Despite the growth and achievements, academy leadership emphasized that the club continues to stay true to its identity as a family-oriented academy focused on long-term player development and international opportunities.
Ella O'Donnell and Roberto Salazar Named 2025/26 MVPs
One of the most emotional moments of the night came during the announcement of the Villarreal Houston Academy MVP Players of the Year.
Ella O'Donnell (2016 Girls) and Roberto Salazar (2014 Boys) were selected as the academy’s two MVP players for the 2025/26 season.
As part of the recognition, both players will travel to Spain in November for a full immersion experience with Villarreal CF’s world-renowned academy, with all expenses covered by Villarreal Houston Academy.
The experience will include:
Training with Villarreal CF academy teams
Friendly matches in Spain
Coaching sessions under official Villarreal CF coaches
Visits to the club’s professional training facilities
A tour of El Estadio de la Cerámica
Opportunities to interact with members of Villarreal CF’s first team environment
“I am so excited to have announced these two players and provide an opportunity of a lifetime for such young players,” shared Cesar Coronel, President of Villarreal Houston Academy.
“To go to Spain to train with the academy teams, play friendly games, learn under the Villarreal CF coaches, visit our training centers and El Estadio de la Cerámica, and experience the professional environment is truly special. We are proud to be one of the few academies in Houston able to provide these opportunities to our players.”
Looking Ahead to 2026/27
As Villarreal Houston Academy prepares for another exciting season, the club continues to expand its player development pathways both locally and internationally.

Additional tryout sessions will be hosted throughout June and July as the academy continues building teams for the upcoming 2026/27 season.
