From the soccer fields of Humble and Atascocita to the world-class training grounds of Villarreal CF in Spain — Caleb Coronel is taking his game to the next level.

Caleb, a 2009-born player and student at Summer Creek High School, has officially been invited to join the Villarreal CF Player Development Program (PDP) — one of the most prestigious youth soccer opportunities in Europe.

This invitation marks a major milestone not just for Caleb, but for the entire Villarreal Houston Academy community and the local soccer scene in Texas.

Caleb’s journey began right here at home. A former JC Sports Houston player, he first developed his technical foundation and love for the game in Atascocita before joining Villarreal Houston Academy, the only official Villarreal CF Academy in the Houston area.

His hard work and dedication quickly paid off. During the Villarreal Academy Cup and Villarreal Academy Yellow Cup International tournaments in Spain, Caleb’s performances stood out to two separate Villarreal CF coaches, who each independently recommended him for the Player Development Program.

That’s when everything changed — Caleb’s next stop would be Spain.

A Global Soccer Journey

Caleb’s development as an athlete has been anything but ordinary. At just 14 years old, he was invited to train and play in England through Excel Sports’ Nike ID Camps — an experience that gave him an early glimpse into the European style of play.

He’s also gained experience across the Americas, participating in preseason with professional team Mineros de Zacatecas in Mexico and training with academies in both Mexico and Argentina.

Last year, he took his learning even further by traveling to Germany, where he trained at the Adidas Headquartersduring the Coerver Coaching 40-Year Anniversary event. This opportunity deepened his understanding of global soccer philosophies and the discipline needed to reach elite levels.

Each of these experiences — from local grassroots fields to professional training centers abroad — has helped shape Caleb into the player he is today.

For Villarreal Houston Academy Directors César and Jennifer Coronel, Caleb’s selection represents a new chapter for the academy.
