From Houston to Madrid: Villarreal Houston 14U Boys Invited to One of the World’s Premier U14 Tournaments
Villarreal Houston Academy is heading to Madrid.
Our 14U Boys team has been invited to compete in the 2026 Madrid Football Cup U-14 (MFC), bringing a group of young players from Houston, Texas, onto one of the biggest international stages in youth soccer.
The tournament will take place September 18–20, 2026, in Alcobendas, Madrid, Spain, bringing together 32 elite clubs and international academies for three days of 11v11 competition. The tournament itself describes the MFC U-14 as “the best U-14 tournament in the world.”
For Villarreal Houston Academy, simply being part of this event is something special.
But more importantly, it represents exactly what we want our development pathway to provide: opportunities for players from Houston to experience the game at the highest possible level.
HOUSTON MEETS THE WORLD
The Madrid Football Cup has built an extraordinary history of bringing together some of the most recognized youth academies in world football.
The tournament's official information highlights clubs including Real Madrid CF, FC Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal FC, Chelsea FC, Juventus FC and FC Porto among its elite participants.
The competition's history is equally impressive.
Past champions include Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid and FC Porto, while academies including Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Juventus and Bayern Munich have finished among the tournament's top three.
And now, Villarreal Houston Academy will be part of that environment.
The Madrid Football Cup recently introduced Villarreal Houston as a first-time participant, recognizing our academy as a project connecting elite Spanish football with the emerging talent of Northeast Houston and highlighting our direct connection with Villarreal CF and the international development opportunities available to our players.
That makes this invitation much more than another tournament on the calendar.
It is an opportunity for our players to discover what the international standard actually looks like.
OUR ROAD STARTS WITH THREE INTERNATIONAL CHALLENGES
Villarreal Houston's qualifying group will immediately challenge our players against different soccer cultures and development environments.

There will be no hiding.
Our players will have to think faster, compete harder, solve problems under pressure and adapt to opponents from completely different soccer environments.
And that is exactly why we are going.
Our objective is not to protect our players from difficult situations. Our objective is to prepare them for difficult situations.
Development happens when players are challenged beyond what is comfortable.
WHERE FUTURE PROFESSIONALS HAVE PLAYED
Perhaps the best way to understand the level of the Madrid Football Cup is to look at some of the players who competed in the tournament before becoming household names in professional football.
According to the tournament organizers, MFC U-14 alumni include Jamal Musiala, Phil Foden, Dejan Kulusevski, Rasmus Højlund, Warren Zaïre-Emery, Bradley Barcola, Yoram Zague, Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento.
Think about that for a moment.
Before playing on some of the biggest professional stages in the world, these players were young academy players competing at the same age and in the same tournament environment our Houston players are about to experience.
Nobody knows where the journey of a 13- or 14-year-old player will ultimately lead.
But we believe strongly that young players should be given opportunities to see the level, feel the level and compete against the level.
That experience can change the way a player sees the game—and what they believe is possible.
MORE THAN A TOURNAMENT — A DEVELOPMENT PATHWAY
At Villarreal Houston Academy, international exposure isn't designed to be a vacation or simply another medal opportunity.
It is part of our development model.
Our relationship with Villarreal CF gives our players access to a soccer environment that extends beyond Houston through training opportunities in Spain, international competitions and experiences within professional academy environments. The Madrid Football Cup organizers themselves highlighted this pathway when announcing Villarreal Houston's first appearance at MFC U-14.
We want players growing up in Houston to understand that geography does not have to limit their development.
A player can train in Houston today and compete against an academy from Europe tomorrow.
A player can learn our methodology during the week and then be asked to execute those principles under international pressure.
That is where development becomes real.
REPRESENTING MORE THAN A TEAM
When our 14U boys step onto the field in Madrid, they will represent more than themselves.
They will represent their families.
They will represent their teammates and coaches back home.
They will represent Villarreal Houston Academy.
And they will represent Houston, Texas, on an international stage.
The Madrid Football Cup has welcomed teams from across the world throughout its history. The 2025 tournament alone featured 32 teams representing 18 countries, illustrating the international scope of the competition.
Being invited into that environment is something our entire academy community should be proud of.
